When Did Focus Start Using Dpf's ?

Featured Replies

Hello from first time forum user Mark in Sunny Carmarthenshire,

My trusty 1999 Focus TDDI estate has finally reached the end of it's road, when the injector packed up . Well, the AA man's diagnostic thing said, faulty injector, communication fault. The car is rusting badly underneath and it's not worth spending on getting it fixed, especially as the road tax is so much !

I have been trying to find out when Ford started using DPF's on the focus, and on which engines, but my search hasn't found the answers , so I am now here asking.

I am hoping to get another Focus diesel estate, around 2004/5 for my £2000 budget, and much as I'd like to be "greener" , my local garage told me to avoid diesels with DPF's, and after reading up about them, I tend to agree !

Can anyone out there help ? Mark.

Hi welcome :)

2007-2008 some time about then

It depends on the engine.

1.8 TDCi never had one.

I thought 1.6 TDCI always had one, but I could be wrong.

Then some 2.0 TDCis have them, some don't depending on year.

1.6 TDCi 110bhp has a DPF from 2004. 90bhp never had a DPF

1.8 TDCi never had a DPF

2.0 TDCi had a DPF from 2004 I think, not 100% on that one though.

Personally I'd go for the 2.0 and smash the DPF through if I had my choice again!

look at the road tax, if its ~30 quid then its got a dpf. i have a feeling all the DV6TED4 1.6l 109hp engines had the dpf tho, wasn't that the objective of PSA and co to make an extremely efficient low pollutant engine?

Thinking about it now, the Fiesta never had a DPF with the 90PS 1.6 TDCI (DV6), only when they upped the power to 95PS in 2010 did they add one.

Darren, pre-2008 the tax on 1.6 110s is £100 odd but they still have a DPF...one reason I went for the facelift! :D The 2.0 tax is also more than £30.

Don't forget tax goes on CO2 not particulates, DPF makes no difference to CO2.

I think it was 2006 for the 2.0 TDCi. My 55 plate 2.0 TDCi doesn't have one.

Hello from Mark again,

Many thanks for all the replies. The search goes on ! It would be nice to have a few more horses under the bonnet, my old Focus has the 1.8 TDDI engine with only 89, 0r is it 90 . I do like the sound of having a few more, especially when towing my old Cotswold Windrush caravan.

Mark.

The 2.0 TDCi is a lovely engine IMO, not as frugal as the smaller ones, but it has a great amount of torque.

I don't know if there is any easy way of seeing if a car has a DPF just by looking underneath....?

A remap is worth doing in my opinion. I got my 2.0 TDCi done. Aside being a !Removed! rocket when I want it to be, it has also made the car a lot more enjoyable

to drive. There is a lot more power that can be applied across the whole rev range (even 4k it still pulls), getting it off the line is easier and it a lot more responsive.

Combined with a new air filter and blanked EGR valve, it has made for a brilliant car to drive. Just to pull out the DPF now....
