Fiesta Mk4b/5 1.2 Project/engine Transplant

Featured Replies

Hey everyone, (I should suggest that if you don't want to read all of this then please skip to the bottom to get to the point).

First off I'll just introduce myself as I'm new to these forums, and my 2000/W reg Mk4b/IVb/V (whatever you want to call it as it seems to vary wildly) Fiesta 1.2 Zetec (both engine and trim are Zetec). She's got the eccentric combination of air conditioning and wind-down windows.

She's a local (ish) Cardiff registered car, which I bought about 18 months ago as my first runaround car with 67k on the clock and little to no service history (though at the price I paid I didn't expect any). Someone previously had a go at fibreglassing the sills (think bathtub) which had to come off for last years MOT, but she's been a lovely runner and great fun to drive and, aside from the rot, hadn't really given me any issues.

She has now done 85k miles and is currently off the road, awaiting an engine transplant. Which brings me to why I'm here. At the end of June, she suffered a serious and sudden misfire on the way to work (though managed to get me the remainder of the way there, about 1/2 a mile). The nutshell of all this is a suspected burnt exhaust valve and/or piston ring failure; this hasn't been narrowed down further due to the cost of taking the head off just to have a look. I'll describe this another time, in case anyone else ever goes through it!

In short, she has become my project car (not very exotic, I know!) and we essentially need a replacement engine (possibly a cat too as a result, and a minor bit of welding) to get her through this MOT and back on the road (she has been off of it since the misfire). My new whip, by the way, is a 2003 Ford Fusion diesel... but that's a story for another day.

I'm looking for a 1.25 Zetec-S/Duratec DOHC EFI(75PS) engine, ideally with low miles and/or service history. My conscience would prefer an engine from a car which no longer exists (i.e. has been scrapped) and/or can't be fixed, or a reconditioned engine (which appears on the face of it to be very expensive, more so to recondition her current one which is a shame), preferably with warranty. This is all very unrealistic, though. So if you or someone you know has one of these engines going for sale (or if you or someone you know can recondition one at a reasonable price), please let me know! I'd just like to point out that I know what she's worth financially... don't remind me haha

P.S. The pictures are taken at Treherbert Mountain in March, and yes it does look like that nearly every day of the year!
