Usb Port

Featured Replies

Hello, I'm sorry if this is in the wrong place, but I was hoping someone could help identify what my USB port is for.

I have recently bought a 2005 ford focus saloon 1.6tdci and on top of the dashboard under a plastic cover is a USB port. I have tried plugging my USB device into it but nothing happens and there is no setting on the radio/CD player to change to USB or aux.

Any ideas? Thanks

Is it an aftermarket port for a previously fitted non standard radio or does it look factory fitted?

The Focus MK2 did not have USB in 2005. USB was introduced by Ford as an option on the Focus MK2.5 in 2008 and was installed into the center console or armrest (depending on the trim level).

So your USB connection will most likely be aftermarket. Possibly the previous owner installed the USB port for charging purposes only. If you have an original 2005 Ford radio it will simply not support USB.

It's factory fitted. It's not close to the radio, it's on top of the dash just under the windscreen.

Sorry, didn't see the latest reply. Thank you for your help!

Due to the location of the USB port it could well be used by the previous owner to power a portable Sat Nav system.

Hi was just reading this is there a usb part I could buy to install into my arm ready in my 2008 focus zetec as I don't have 1 woukdvi need to run any wires any where cheers

USB was available as an option on the Sony single and 6-CD radio's and the Blaupunkt Travelpilot Sat Nav radio's of the focus MK2.5. USB is completely controlled by the Bluetooth/Voicecontrol module.

If you car has a suitable audio system combined with the Bluetooth/Voicecontrol system USB (and also Bluetooth Audio) support can be retrofitted by changing the Bluetooth/Voicecontrol module and installing the USB wiring and USB port. Both the module and the wiring are pretty expensive. All needed parts do cost about €500,-.
