Ford Focus Mk2 Spongy Brakes

Featured Replies

Hi all,

i recently bought another mk2 focus after damaging my other beyond repair. The wheel bearings needed replacing as the control arms. so i replaced these without taking the flexi hose from the caliper. i decided while i had the wheels off i would change the discs and the pads for peace of mind. bolted every thing back on but i had a spongy pedal.

no bother i bled the system but no air in it. when i pumped the pedal it was nice and firm but when i started the car the pedal sunk almost all the way to the floor. you can pump it firm whilst car is on but always sinks back down to the bottom. took it to garage for them to bleed system and defiantly no air in the system. any ideas on why this would be?

could it be the master cylinder has broke whilst car hasn't been in action? or the flexi hose faulty?

any help would be much appreciated as this has my head done in.

thanks in advance

Jack

Hi Jack

Heh heh, hijack... (Bet that is the first time you've heard that one...)

Is it weeping anywhere? Sounds like maybe a cylinder has broke, or a bleed isn't tightened properly. I would look at the easy to get to stuff first before looking at the fiddly and more expensive. I reckon one of the more enlightened brethren will appear at some point and gift you better wisdom than I, but it is a start!

hi, thanks for the reply and no nothing is weeping and ive already been around all four bleed nipples and tightened them. so i dont believe it is that. when you say cylinder are you refering to the master cylinder? if so ive started taking it from my old focus but as you say it is a little fiddly especially with a basic tool kit.

Could be master or slave that is shot if I remember correctly
