Coolant Temperature Plug

Featured Replies

Hi, engine management light came on and i got a code P0118. I know what it means and the causes. The sheathing around the wire coming out of the temp/plug had perished exposing the wire realy close to the plug. My car is a 2007 1.6 tdci focus.

I nearly collapsed when told the plug only came as part of a loom costing around £170 so i cut the plug off and soldered on a coolant temp/plug from another focus but it was a 1.8 version that fitted my temp sensor. The engine managment light hasnt come back on but after about 15 min of idling the temperature gauge on the dash hasnt moved, staying on zero but the blowers in the car are blowing out warm air.

Can someone Please help as this is driving me mad

I don't think it will tell the ecu when it at right temp so will use more fuel. I would look on e bay iam sure you can get one there

Thanks for your reply. I am not talking about the actual temp sensor , I am talking about the plug that connects to the sensor from the wiring loom.

if its just the wiring you have changed that should be fine

are you sure that the sensor is good might not be working

my car is a 2007 1.6 tdci , i cut the plug off and soldered a plug from a 2005 1.8 tdci. Am I correct in thinking the plugs are just a pass through and dont do much else than connect to the sensor from the loom. The doner plug was slightly different but taken from the exact same sensor that is on my car (same sensore on both cars) . If i disconnect the new plug from the sensor and start the car , the fan comes on straight away but when its connected it stays off.

Correct, it's simply a connector with no other function.

Also the fan coming on when the temp sensor disconnected is correct and shows the correct operation of the fan - a sort of fail safe mode.,

Thanks for your replies, I resoldered the wires ( a bit to eager on the first go I think) and i've got my sanity back. The temp rose after about 15mins and stayed steady. Took the car for a drive and all was well.

I REALEY appreciated all the replies. Thanks
