Start Up Problems

Featured Replies

Hello there could someone help me with this one please? I have a 2005 mk2 1.6 petrol hatchback (man)

Stuck in traffic on the A30 today at a stand still so I turned the engine off. When I tried to start the car again, it would not start. It didn't go dead, just wouldn't start. When I turned the key there was a clicking comming from the glove box fuses, the starter motor was working it just didn't start.

It's been a bit iffy recently as well cutting out just after I started the engine and then dispaying the engine management fault on the dash.

At idle there is the slightst stutter.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Iffy battery ?

Plugs/leads/coil

Plugs are new, was hoping to hold off buying new leads, coil pack or batttery to diagnose until I'd asked on here first in case this was a common fault. Is it normal for the glove box fuses to make a clicking noise on start up? I also noticed that my headlights turned on briefly when I just started the car.

The clicking is likely to be a relay that you can hear. Maybe packing up. Once had an Audi where the engine would just splutter to a stop, I would leave it for a while and the engine would start again, very random fault. Got the AA man out and he discovered that the fuel punp solenoid was faulty, I replaced it and the fault never reoccured.

If the clicking is coming from the glove box area it's likely to be relay clicking
