Focus Econetic Smoke From Turbo Pipe

Featured Replies

Hi Guys

I have a ford focus 1.6 econetic 2008 model 109 bhp

I noticed a smokey smell inside so lifted the bonnet, i found that when the engine is revved i can see smoke coming from the side the pipe that meets the turbo (under the engine cover)

I cant see any obvious split, is this a common issue? is it just the pipe that needs replacing?

No funny noises and no loss in power

Thanks

Check that the connections holding the pipe on are as tight as possible

Hi

The connection seem tight??

I wondering if it needs a new pipe and seal/clamp?

I have attached pictures to show where it is leaking smoke from

It's a 3 way pipe

Leaks from around the jubilee clip nearest the words garett on the turbo

You shouldn't have smoke on that side of the turbo, that's just the compressor for the air intake, it'll be coming from the other side, perhaps through a nackard seal or something.

would a filled up DPF apply enough back pressure to force the smoke through?

Hi Guys had a look at the other side and looks like your right

Smoke is blowing out when the car is reved!!!!!!!

Is this an easy fix or a turbo recon job? hoping i can replace just a seal

Pics attached to show the soot/smoke

I do use the car regularly on the motorway so the dpf should be re generating and the car has only done 64K

It's engine speed & not necessarily vehicle speed that is important for dpf regenerations

Looks like the smoke is blowing past the turbo gasket - it's hard to tell / see

Is that exhaust clamp tight ?

exhaust clamp looks and feels tight

noticed a nut missing possibly from the top of the turbo as can be seen in the pic

(could be that its supposed to be like this)

Most of the soot is lower down and it does smell which is what is drawn into the cabin
