Remapping Around Cambridge

Featured Replies

Can anyone recommend a good remapping service within easy reach of Cambridge. I found a couple locally that looked promising on their websites but found they are both operating out of private houses. One didn't respond to my enquiry and the other bounced back.

You get what you pay for, just remember that there are two types of remap, a custom job where you will receive a before an after trace on a Dyno to show you the improvement and an off the shelf map, which is like a best fit for that car but not specific to YOUR car.

I can't help with recommendations as I'm not from there but just keep an eye out for what they are offering, if they don't mention that its off the self or custom then its probably off the shelf. Any company that openly talks about the two types of map are probably more trustworthy.

Anyone doing it from home will probably be using cloned Chinese hardware with a map found on the internet, not sure id recommend that! You won't know what your getting and have little to fall back on if it goes wrong

Are you remaping a Petrol or Diesel?

I would recommend Superchips, they are recognised by many Insurance companies and the Bluefin handset makes the job really effortless. Well happy with my Remap

+ 1 for Superchips / Bluefin :)

Thanks for responding guys.

Darren, I understand what you're saying and that's why the private addresses rang alarm bells. I was hoping to find somewhere that could do a before-and-after test on a dyno and maybe even tweak the map to my engine because I'd really like, for example, to improve the throttle response.

Looking at Superchips they don't appear to offer a before-and-after test but just supply a map that has been developed on a dyno. I ran their selection wizard and the improvement to be expected on my engine, a non-turbo 1.8 petrol, hardly seems to justify the cost. I like the idea of the Bluefin tool though.

Actually my engine is less powerful than I had thought if the figures in my Haynes manual are correct. It quotes 82KW (125PS) though that can't be truly accurate because when I went to school there were 746 Watts in 1 horsepower (that's for electrical hp, mechanical is a fraction less) and 82KW converts to 109.96bhp or 111.5ps. The Superchips wizard listed the 1.8 at 113bhp so there seems to be some "flexibility" in the interpretation.

The improvement offered is 11bhp on 113bhp and 13Nm on 160Nm, so about 10% and 8% respectively. I wonder how much difference I'd notice as the before and after curves they publish show hardly any difference below 4500 rpm for bhp although torque is a bit better at lower rpm. However, the curves give slightly different figures from the wizard with gains of approx 11% and 10% respectively.

I realise that better gains can be had with turbo engines but I'm stuck with this non-turbo one for a while and I don't know whether these gains would be worth it.

A Friend of mine does remapping in St Ives Cambridgeshire.

He has done 2 of my diesels & all of my other friends cars , both petrol & diesel.

I can't fault them in any way.

Here's a link to his site , I'm sure he will help

11bhp doesn't sound like much tbh, especially compared to the 40-50bhp gains from turbo diesels - depends on price really, as you say without a turbo the gains aren't gonna be great.
