Focus 1.6tdci 2009 Mk 2.5 Timing Belt

Featured Replies

Is the water pump driven by the timing belt on this or is it aux belt driven?

I'm looking at doing the cambelt next week cars only on 67k but I've got various mods on the way so would rather be safe! And if water pump is cambelt driven I'll change it as no point risking it for such a small cost as I'm there anyway just wanted to know so I can get all bits at same time

Yes, the waterpump is cambelt driven on the DV6 engine.

Hi

If you are going to the explence of doing the cam belt I would also change the water pump

The water pump is exposed when changing the belt

  • 2 months later...

Afternoon all,

I had a conversation a while back with Lenny about having the timing belt and water pump done

He mentioned that there was some other seal that would be worth replacing whilst they were poking about down there, anyhow, I don't suppose anyone knows which seal, were it is, part numbers etc etc?

Shes just hit 82k so I'm thinking now is a good time to get this taken care of before the MOT in Feb....

I was looking at getting the engine mounts taken care of as well, one of them seems to have developed a small pool of thick liquid on the top which I think is from inside it, but they look easy enough to get my own hands dirty with.

is there anything else anyone can think of that is wort#h having done at the same time?

Darren

Hi

I'm not to sure what Lenny was on about in reference to the other seals but you may as well change the belt that drives the aircon and alternator at the same time

I did that myself the other week, if theres a seal that is needing all that removed to get to it then I may as well have it done, bit of preventative maintenance an all that. For the life of me I cant find out what and where it is to, PMing Lenny didn't work so I'm "hoping!" lenny sees this :)

Only seal I can think of would be crankshaft seal but that's only necessary if it's weeping.

Also have you got a pic of the engine mount leak? They're usually solid rubber mounts so I'm not sure what would be leaking.

Car is in the garage getting repaired, some sod reversed in to it, drove off, she then came back and did it again this time belting it!!

DashCam now paid for its self and some cheeky sod is being charged with leaving the scene of an accident.

its just below the expansion tank, sitting on top of the rubber was a thick liquid, initially I thought it was the coolant but the colour was darker and as thick as warm chocolate. I did some reading up and I think if i read it right, some of the mounts had a liquid in them which was why there was about 12 different versions of that part on fords because they keep breaking.

he said the seal was only a couple of quid so cant be too big...

Oh dear, didn't realise that, at least you know who did it though.

That's interesting about the mounts, not read about that myself, will have to do a bit of research I think.

Crank seals don't cost much even though they're quite big. The only other seal you'll disturb is the waterpump seal/gasket but it'll come with a new one in the box anyway. Really can't think of anything else you'd change around that area tbh.

yeah, ill post the video soon, not much to look at but still, been a pain in the !Removed!, new bumper, new NS front wing and bumper brackets

that sounds like it might be the one then, with a bit of luck lenny will see this to confirm.

Will you get their insurance to pay up?

Not what you need just before Christmas good job you had a dash cam may get on for mine and the wifes car

totally worth it, my excess would have been as much as the camera, with them just driving off id have been left to pay out. Id have rather sorted it directly tbh but they forced my hand so its going to cost their insurance a small bomb, all because they didn't want to pay 40p for the public carpark.

I'm going to get one for my partners car next year as well, it just takes one sod to really ruin your day. only downer is all this talk on watchdog about you keeping your no claims but you still get a massive price hike on your insurance because statistically, even tho its 100% not your fault, your are potentially more likely to be involved in a crash. utter nonsense, I'm with Adrian Flux on here so I'm kinda hoping it wont go that way tho....

2 weeks of car hire, bumper, wing, a few bits and bobs, I'm guessing a finger in the air figure of about 600-700 quid, id have had to have paid out the first 200 of that without the cam.

Shes been charged tho, max 5k fine and upto 10 points all for 40p and the inability to drive a car

Hi mate

What type of dash cam have you got? As I said before I am interested in fitting one to my car but don't know which one to get

Where do you take the power from and I suppose it's recording all the time?

Darren

i have a thinkware F750, dual camera.

In parking mode the camera is on all the time (unless the voltage drops too low or nothing happens for x period of time) but it buffers the data rather than records it all, so what you end up with is a 20 second clip straddling the "event" that could be motion, impact or loud noise, when the engine is on it just records, storing the two channels as separate files, the camera embeds GPS data as well as a G sensor. If you have a crash (or hit a bump to hard) it will record that and wont overwrite it. it has wifi as well which you can use with android or a iPhone.

Mine is hardwired in to GEM, it needs two piggy back fuses an always on 12v (I used the cigarette socket) and an ignition on fuse, I think I used one of the interior fuses, but cant remember off the top of my head. when it detects the ignition being turned off / on it changes the mode

it is expensive tho, you have two choices with cameras, Chinese and risk getting a pile of poo, or a Korean one that has QC. cheap ones don't tend to have parking mode, don't buy anything from the UK without doing research, so many of the sub 100 cameras are actually just rebranded Chinese clones
