Ecoboost Clutch

Featured Replies

Hi I'm new to the forum I downsized from a 1.6 Grand CMax to a Fiesta 1.0 Ecoboost Zetec.

The car is a year old and has done 15000 miles. The clutch seems really heavy, much heavier than my Grand CMax. Also I have to push it right to the floor otherwise gear changing is notchy. When pulling off I only have to lift it a little and it's off. I was told by the dealer the Ecoboost has a heavy clutch due to the high low down torque it produces.

I would appreciate any feedback from 1.0 Ecoboost owners regarding their clutches.

Many thanks.

I haven't driven an ecoboost fiesta but the clutch in my mum's 1.0 Focus is pretty light.

The Focus ST I test drove is much more like you describe, really heavy with a low bite point.

Have you tried a different ecoboost fiesta to compare? There should be plenty about, most dealers have them as demo/courtesy car.

I drove a ecoboost Fiesta and the clutch was lovely and light compared to my diesel. Sounds like the slave cylinder is failing, a common fault on the Focus.

theres been a few people on here commenting about a heavy clutch in their cars. Mine feels nice though- I quite like the clutch to be honest as its a nice bite point and goes away.

I'd get it into Ford ASAP if under warranty. Ecoboost clutch failures, particularly on the 1.0 are pretty high.

Are these failures due to hydraulics?

I can't understand why they didn't use cable.

The Auto gearboxes have a high failure rate.

Given how far the hydraulic system has gone down the model chain, it must be cheaper to install in the factory than a cable. The manufacturer then wins two ways when it is more expensive to fix.

I have no issues with mine to date !

Hi many thanks for the replies, I think my best option is to try another 1.0 Ecoboost so I have a comparison.

However I have also notice when I reverse out in the morning with full lock on, as I straighten up I can feel some movement through the clutch pedal (maybe the whole pedal assembly) I will try and get more info on this.

My ecoboost is too light/spongey and high for my liking, it's hard to always perfectly find the bite point everytime. I think I'm just used to the much more torquey diesel we have which has the perfect clutch.

That makes sense, i've had 2 hydraulics fail but never a cable. Saying that, my old chap had a cable pull itself through the bulkhead on a 77 Golf.

if ur last car had a lighter clutch and you go go into the fiesta the clutch is a bit heavy as your muscle memory from last car stays in your head you will get used to it and will be fine 2bh

i only know this because i drive work cars and all have a ligher clutch than mines (even tho i think my clutch is light and cars at work is super light haha)

but after a few days driving in cars at my work and come home to mines but dont get me wrong a prefer the feel of mines but is slightly heavier :) after driving other cars :)
