The Difference A Day Makes!

Engine bay this morning compared to engine bay this afternoon. Well happy with it.

Anyone know if it's ok to leave the air box lid off or is that not a good idea? Sounds much better without it.

Going to have to clean the rest of it up now.

Lid off just means you will suck all the hot air in from under the bonnet and reduce performance.

you can always drill some holes for that induction noise (mind you this will mean drawing in some warm air - depending on where the holes are!)

Yeah I got it mainly for economy reasons so I'd better put the lid back on. Luckily I sprayed that too.

I'm thinking of drilling a couple of smallish holes, just in the front of the lid. Then hopefully it'll mainly be cold air coming in and seeing as its only the lid I can replace if needs be! Also ordered a green cotton filter which I'm hoping will improve intake.

I don't think you'll see any economy gains from it... Should sound better though! :D

Put the lid back on. The filter is not going to make any difference either.

Is yours petrol or diesel? If it's diesel leave the lid off but if it's petrol you may be better with putting it back on. I'd try it without personally though I've always run a cone filter on all my cars and never experienced heat soak and some were running big power. My 1.8tdci with a ramair cone filter on.

Other option is the K&N 57s-4000 kit which has an open ended intake but retains the box around the rest of the filter. The 57 kit is expensive as it comes with a replacement lid with a K&N logo on it. If youre not fussed about the lid then you can buy just the filter as i did which is a E-9289 for about £50-60 if you shop around. It has a removable end bung so you can choose between quiet or extra induction noise. Obviously i have my bung removed!:)

Wow....what did you clean that with?

I didn't clean them, I sprayed them the same colour as my car (sea grey). Mainly to get some practice in with the spray can before I do the fog light surrounds. Problem is because they're so shiny now everything else looks much worse!
