Pointless Cubby Hole

Featured Replies

hey guys, has any one done anything useful to the pointless cubby hole down the right hand side of the steering column?

its completely useless, anything you put in there ends up under your feet when you leave that Audi in the dust at a set of traffic lights.

I have a kill switch for my DRL's in mine. Other than that I don't use it either.

It's only use in my car is for the OBD port that's above it... I don't use any open cubby holes though, don't like seeing stuff lol, fortunately the Focus gloveboxes are huge.

Also, how slow are these Audi's if you're leaving them in a 1.8 petrol Focus...guessing they're not R8s?

If they are diesel ones.... Sorry... ;)

Lol... The 1.8s are only just quicker than my 1.6TDCi which couldn't pull the skin off custard. :P Nothing compared to my old diesel Golf. :(

people round here think they can drive... They cant,

I am wondering, that port that's there I assume there's power running to it? I want power over that side of the car to have my sat nav plugged in without traipsing across my stereo and dash. Is there a way? I don't really have the know how to disassemble the whole dash. But I can manage to get panels off here and there.

The port is powered, but I wouldn't want to take power from there personally as there's like 30 wires. I think you'd be better off taking power from one of the lighter sockets tbh.

That's were I keep my gold plated Desert Eagle 5.0 that I use for shooting out red lights and speed camera's.

My SatNav is in that corner too and I routed my cables behind the dash, it's really not that tricky.

I recommend getting a 12V extension off of Stoney which piggybacks onto the dashboard socket. You'll only need to remove the kick panel in the driver's footwell (2 screws) and the panel around the useless pocket (2 screws) and you can have everything hidden away all neat and tidy. My build thread has more detail.

One more thing... That cubby hole annoys me with its uselessness!

more to add to the list for the misses to hate me for ;) haha! I didn't realise it was that simple. I thought to route it from one side to the other I would have to remove most the dash. I will test that one out.

I removed my glove box today to be nosey before I start adding new features (also allowed me to today some cables phone charger, extra usbs and 12v etc) found my black box. Looks really simple to remove. It only has power running to it (I assume power) might mean I don't have to hunt for a power source when I add things :)

There is a small rubber mat/tray designed to sit in the bottom of the port cubby so you can put coins for tolls/parking there but they are not often available anywhere but from a Dealers parts counter.

I used to have mine held down with a bit of double sided tape to stop it sliding out.

Doesn't sound to bad of a idea, I did want to leave loose change in the car just didn't want it on show, always need random loose change!

Used to have an Accord with a cubby in the same place, however it housed a pull down box which was very handy. Thinking of doing something similar for the Focus for odds and sods storage. Then again I've been pondering plopping a cheap Android phone on a hinge in there purely to run Torque for the bluetooth ODB thing that sits right behind it anyway ;)

I used to keep a spare 20 deck in there for emergencies in my old Accord!

that sounds like a good idea synaesthesia, let me know I you do it, & how! :)

If anyone is interested in the little rubber cubby tray, it's available in Medium Light Stone (Finis 1355550) approx £13 and Dark Flint (Finis 1355551) approx £8.

just out of curiosity, where from Stoney?

Ford themselves.

Give them the number at the parts counter and they'll order them in, usually takes 3 days.

awesome, cheers for that.
