Oil Leak

Featured Replies

I'm gutted to say the least..

Had the car for 3 weeks now and noticed a spot of oil on the garage floor,, had a look and it's coming from the Timing Belt side..

I was thinking it could be the crank seal? Or is there any common problems on that side of the engine?

Only reason I'm asking is the car is under warranty and I'm sure they will sort it but the garage I had it from is around 40 miles away so if it's an easy cheap fix I would do it myself..

Sorry should of said its a 1.4 petrol,, 26k on it

Anyone know of any common problems please?

Could it be leaking from the joint between the block and the sump?

if them pictures are taken from underneath , i would presume its the crank seal or the sump seal , of course more investigation is necessary

Took it back the garage I bought it from yesterday.

Had a phone call today to say it's the crank oil seal that's at fault..

They are a VW main dealer and said they don't want to touch it as they hav.ent got the tools so are going to send it to Ford for me

They've been really good and to be honest if this experience is anything to go by I would buy another car off them in a heart beat..

nice to hear thy are getting it fixed for you and not fobbing you off like a lot do

Touch wood they have been great Rich,,, can't praise them enough at the moment..

Stu

As a thought maybe if the cambelt is nearly due might be an idea to get in contact with the ford garage they've sent it to and see if they will replace it. Since they are taking it off anyway your labour costs could possibly be reduced

I was thinking that but it's only 4 year old and done 26k so not sure if it's worth the extra expense at the moment..

Stu

Oh definitely not then mate your way under needing it done so tbh would be wasting your money

A quick update..

I have been told today that my car should be done and back tomorrow or Wednesday.. They have said they are not sure if it's the front or rear seal that is faulty?

I always just thought there was only one seal behind the crank pulley and not two?

Or could anyone tell me where I could get an exploded view of the engine so I could have a look..

Thanks

Stu

Hi

Could it also be AC compressor oil ?

No mate they have confirmed its coming from the crankshaft oil seal..

I just thought there was one but they are saying there is two seals,, a front and rear one (behind the pulley)

Sorry to hear about your issue, I woke up yesterday to find a 4cm rial patch of oil on the floor right under the front drivers side light fixture, I've never had oil leak before but the car started no problem and there was no more this morning.

Is that something to worry about or can a bit of oil splutter out randomly?

1 year old 125 ecoboost and 29k miles.

Thanks
