Focus 2010 - Window Rubbers No Longer Clearing Glass

Featured Replies

Hi,

Swapped my wipers as they were getting on my !Removed! with smearing etc and now onto the windows - thought I'd try to sort this just before the weather starts to get properly worse in the mornings etc.

When cycling the windows down/up, they used to get cleared quite nicely but lately this isn't happening.

I did try some silicone-based dash shine stuff on them and gave them a bit of a working but it's made no difference.

Is there something easy that can be done to restore normal service?

Thanks,

D

No suggestions?

mine have never cleared them so it must be just a thing unless you bend the door but i wouldnt sudjest doing that

My seals don't clear the window either. One aspect of the Mk2 I don't like compared to the Mark 1.

For the drivers side I just gently rest my elbow against the window as I cycle it. It pushes it against the seals and clears it. Not a proper fix but works for me.

the silicone stuff isnt good for glass and could smear a thin film onto the glass and make a mess so i would remove as much as possible from the rubber/felt

this is a good suggestion. i normally have to use a small wiper blade to clear any mist etc from mine and the wife's car.

To get glass thoroughly clean use wire wool soaked in vinegar & then wipe dry with paper towel

ONLY use this method on pure glass without any kind of film or coating ! ! ! !

Works perfectly on cars & domestically too

The design of the door is such that its only use the rubber bit is to channel water to the drains as you lower the window it doesn't make contact with the rubber as it doesn't go straight down but has a curve to it so it will never clear it I've never used it but she I had a bike we used rain x on the outside of the visor and it did work

Cheers for the replies.

I think the annoying thing is that the windows always used to be cleared but not recently. It's not like I've even done anything to it and I just thought whatever came into contact with the glass had maybe gone brittle with age and could be revitalised.

D
