Mpg Got Worse

Featured Replies

My mpg got worse after IC replacement.
I was averaging between 57 and 53 urban and 63 on motorway, now after Instrument Cluster was replaced and mileage corrected my mpg is 41- 37 urban

i recently changed oil, all filters etc and I fill up with v-power at shell. What else can I do ?? Will ECU reset help ??

a bit of both really. I filled up for 20 quit few days ago done about 120 miles and got orange jew beeping at me again

Why am I imagining a Rabbi from Essex right now... ;)

Sounds about right actually 20 of v power will get you around 150 miles including the 50 reserve

Was the IC (HEC) changed for the correct type and was it programmed in properly?

Also as said are you actually working your MPG figure based on how much fuel used in gallons divided by the miles travelled, that is the only way to check your actual MPG, by doing this regularly you have a rolling average which will show if suddenly your MPG drops drastically giving a hint something is not right.

It does not say what engine you have in your car so I have no idea what the figures for your car should be ( I am presuming it is a diesel?).

You need to fill the car up, run until until either your weekly fill up or until it is almost empty then re fill it and then work out your MPG.

I filled up with regular and is getting better. Now is 44,7mpg urban from 37 and I'm booting it same way as I was on v-power.

If I disconnect battery for few hours will ECU reset itself ??

My car has diesel engine 1,6 90bhp

Just to let you know,

I cleared my egr today and my mpg is 72 on motorway

Yeah you got an issue 72mpg is not right no offence but its not possible from a ford don't care how you drive it definitely not on a car weighing 1.5 tonnes with a 90bhp engine

keep in mind that a software update for the HEC changed the way in which it calculates fuel, its more dynamic so can fluctuate a lot more but is more accurate for that given moment.

In essence, if you kick the balls out of it for a short period, or are driving in conditions that have a negative effect, too cold, too hot, water wind etc, it will have an effect there and then. the next day on the same trip might give you very different results.

Car wouldn't be set up in kpg would it to get those sort of results, 72mpg does seem a bit high 72kpg seems a bit more likely which works out about 44mpg I think

No such thing as kpg, either its mpg or litres per 100km

I was going to say my self what is Kilometres per gallon.

Being cold the engine temperature fluctuates more,

when travelling at speed more cold air is going through the radiator which means the thermostat stays closed to try and keep the water temp higher

thus using more fuel

Yes sorry. Ment the car set up so the mileage shows kilometers rather than miles.

My Mondeo shows reading in either kilometers or miles.

most modern cars do this
