Pcm Reset Or Update???

Featured Replies

Has anyone done a PCM update using elmconfig setup?

Car (2009 focus 1.6 zetec) is lacking power and have changed all the usual stuff and it has no codes ect so I was thinking maybe a pcm update may help.

Does anyone know hoe to do this or if I can reset the pcm to default settings/state from whenit was new.

Thanks

if im honest id be extremely cautious using ELM327 to update the PCM and since the only people that really know their stuff with the elmconfig software are all Russian it makes getting good solid support almost impossible.

From what i gather tho the PCM updated that can be used with it are just minor software improvments, it might iron out a rough idle, or reduce some turbo lag, help with lower emissions etc, but ultimately it wont improve your total power, it cant or every car with the updates wouldnt be as they were originally sold if it gained an extra 5ps, getting it mapped is slightly different and again I wouldn't feel safe trying to use it to do it.

I considered updating the PCM a while back but I decided it wasn't worth the hassle it would cause with other things.

I wouldn't mind getting ahold of a ECU tho, I have the gear to safely dump and flash ROMs but I'm not going to experiment on my working ECU until I know it works on an identical one

oh you can reset the device within reason by disconecting the battery for about half hour, it will clear all the learned values, in fact I think FORScan has a service option to do that as well, "reset all learned values" or something similar, mind to get your radio code first of you kill the power!

Thanks Darren for replying. I used elm config and on the pcm section I selected reset module and reset kam. To be honest I did not know what it was for but the car seems to be on still some lack of power but hopefully I did not alter anything using those two options

I will try the battery disconnecting for about 30 to see of that maybe resets values and see how it goes after that. Where abouts in forscan has the option to reset or clear values?

The only other thing I did was a few months bck if you can remember I updated the hec firmware to enable tyre pressure monitoring and eco mode but I don't think this would have any effect on the power loss issue???

EDIT

--------------------------

Darren I just updates the forscan software and I can see the "reset all adoptions" option under the service procedures. I Will run this tomorrow when I get a chance and see if that makes a difference.

will this option be better than disconnecting the battery method?

and also after all is rest how long does it take to relearn the new values? (does is go by certain amount of miles covered or a certain number of start to stop journeys ect?)

Thanks
