Reversing Camera

Hi guys.

I was just wondering whether it was possible to retrofit a reversing Camera but using the screen in the dashboard.

I've got the higher spec screen with the sat nav built in.

    On the 5 Inch full color Sat Nav display the rear view camera can be retrofitted without any problems. However the original parts needed to do this will cost a fortune. The rear view camera input of the the 5 Inch full color display is softwarematically locked. On cars with the rear view camera the camera input is unlocked by the rear view camera module. This module sends a signal over the CANbus network which unlocks the rear view camera function of the display. The rear view camera module only works with the original rear view camera. The original parts needed to retrofit the rear view camera are very expensive. All needed parts will cost about €750,-.

    However there is a much cheaper solution. Some clever Russians developed their own CANbus module to unlock the rear view camera input of the display.

    This module will work with all cheap Chinese rear view camera offered on Ebay.

    The Russian module needs to be connected to the CANbus system. Usually it is connected to a connector behind the center console. When connected the module unlocks the rear view camera input of the 5 Inch display if the car is in reverse. If a suitable rear view camera is connected the image will be shown on the display. If your car has PDC you will loose the visual PDC information on the display. The camera image replaces the visual PDC information.
