Engine Change

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Engine became faulty and stopped starting or running, unsure on fault but was advised by garage to change the engine as this would be the cheaper option. Rather than them spending time to investigate further as they had already checked the common areas.

Purcahsed an engine which I was advised was running fine before it was dismantled.

The ancillaries were put on new engine, along with two injectors from old engine and two purchased as couldnt get them out from the old engine. New timing belt and water pump installed and new clutch and flywheel.

Garage now say it has started but doesnt run, they say potentiallly a fuel pump issue.

As there are people here with more experince, just wanted some guidance on where to go from here, what else could be at fault?

I understand help could be limited without inspecting engine, any help is greatly appreciated.

Kind regards,

I think the injectors need coding in just a though

I have to say i find changing the extreme a bit extreme and perhaps unnecessary.

The engine as a basic unit is nothing more than some mechanical moving parts, if the timing is correct, it has compression etc then there is very little else it does on its own without the ancillaries - which is where your problem still is by the sounds of it

Cant be bothered ti look so put another engine in it Jesus where do these garages come from as above sounds totally unecessary garage sounds like the problem not the car though if it was a simple relatively cheap part you've now put back on another engine you'll have the same issue...if you've got that much cash to burn ill send you some envelopes ill take it off you're hands.....did they try pressing the fuel cut off switch it wont start unless they do its in the driver footwell right hand side red button behind a hole cut into the plastic kick panel

Thank you for your replies.

They advised that the timing was off and that the timing belt had slipped which is why it was cheaper to change the engine. I managed to get another engine for a fraction of the cost they quoted to inspect let alone repair.

After some investigation they say that the injectors need testing and possibly cleaning and repairing, granted what you have said above is right with the ancillaries being the issue but am torn between a family death, another member with a brain tumor and the third with a tumor in her throat so just agreed to what they were willing to do.

Anyway this brings me to finding a place that will test and repair the injectors, can anyone recommend any? Whether around Manchester or able to do this service by post.
