Temp Gauge Drops When Accellerating Mk2 2006 1.8tdci

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

I am wondering if anyone could help me out with my Focus, it has developed a bit of a strange issue. When accelerating in 4th or 5th the temperature gauge needle drops and I can get it really low down 70 degrees C or so. This then gives a DTC on the dash which I cant read with my ODB scanner but came up as P0670 (Glowplug control circuit) when my mechanic scanned it. It idles fine on start up but after driving to work, it gets really rattly.

I have replaced the CHT sensor, glowplugs and glowplug relay but the problem still persists. I have also taken apart the cluster and cleaned the PCB and resoldered all the main connections on the board.

Thanks,

Daryl

Hi

Could the thermostat be stuck open intermittantly (bad spelling lol)

do you per chance have the heat on high

It started a few months ago when the weather was still warm. From my reading its either that, or a defective cluster. A thermostat slow to close/open seems logical.

a new cluster is very costly as it has Pats (passive anti theft system) in it.

Does your instrument cluster do anything else odd

it is common for the mk2 cluster to fail there have been lots of problems with them

Im sure someone with more experience will be along shortly.

for now i would get the thermostat changed as it is not a costly item.

No this is the only issue, which makes me think its something else. Will get a thermostat and gasket from Ford and get that fitted to see if it sort it!

Hi Daryl

Let us know how you get on, then we can get some others involved :-)

Jamie

I had a car without a temp gauge once and when going at motorway speeds EML would come on. Whilst driving round town it never came on changed thermostat at that fixed it. Thinking while on motorway computer thouight the emissions were to high and gave a fault but rouind town it didn't expect low emissions.
