Help Urgent Mk2 Clutch?!?!?!?

Featured Replies

Hi,

Just got in the car to go out, immediately noticed that the clutch was different to usual. Pulled of and the revs are building but the speed is barely. Obviously the clutch is slipping but here's where it's weird.

2 weeks ago did a full oil change new filter as well as a few other service bits. Checked it after clutch slipping - bone dry not a single bit of oil on the dip stick. my guess is somehow the oil is leaking into the clutch making it slip.

HELP! How do I go about rectifying this!?!?

Don't want to sound downbeat but it doesn't look good. Looks like the crankshaft seal has failed. The gearbox will have to come out to confirm but it could be expensive. What engine and mileage?

Gear box out and replace rear oil seals and I would replace the clutch as well

keep a eye on that oil leave as I will damage your engine if its to low.

Did you dip the oil twice? I've found that after a run the oil disappears off the bottom of the dipstick but if you take it out then dip again it comes back. I figured that the level drops when the engine is running because it's being pumped round and an airlock develops in the dipstick tube due to the 'o'-ring sealing the top of it.

100,000 miles 1.6. I was literally driving it at midnight last night no problem and this morning clutch slipping

clutch has given up the ghost had one do the same

Clutch needs replaced anyway due to.oil contamination so a whole kit would be best clutch pressure plate and release bearing on my 1.6 Ti vct the clutch kit new seals oil and labour was over £600 luckily my aftermarket warranty paid over half of it

Forking out £600 at the moment is not an option with a holiday coming up in 2 weeks. Gonna have to fix the leak and new clutch. Weekend is gonna be fun

Checked under and put it down to crankshaft leaking. Anyone got a rough guide on going about replacing this?

yes gear box out and replace the crank shaft seal and clucth

Once the box is out, it's all pretty self explanatory on changing the seal, be careful fitting the new one though, don't want to find it leaking again straight after! Is there any oil on your undertray/driveway? The bellhousings usually have a drain at the bottom so if you had lost most of the oil there's gotta be a puddle somewhere!

Either way, the box needs coming out whatever's happened.

There's a lot of oil over drive anyway. I can see there is oil all over the bottom of the engine so it's defiantly the seal I think. Any one know where I can pick a new deal up cheap?

Ford is the only option I wouldn't trust aftermarket parts new clutch new pressure plate new slave cylinder has to be done no way of dodging that I'm afraid

:( funny how cars go wrong when you got a holiday planed

Before I set off on my hols, I carefully checked for clutch slip amongst other things. All OK.

400 mile on, what do you know, the clutch started to slip just a little at first but when provoked full slip.

I found a local non franchised garage who replaced driven plate, cover and slave cylinder for £300. He was recommended by a friend and did a superb job. The parts were LUK sourced from Euro Car Parts.

I got a price from the nearby Ford dealer at £500 plus parts ( I thanked him but did not get back!) and £180 from a "clutch specialist" but since the parts on their own would cost in the region of £130 I gave him a miss as well.

The annoying thing was that if I was at home I would have done the job myself.

ScaniaPBman.

PS. This is the wife's Focus, a 1.6 Ti-VCT manual transmission.
