Focus St-3 2006 Denso Sat Nav Unit - Faulty Bluetooh Module

Featured Replies

Hi All,

New person here! :) Hope you are well :)

I have a 2006 Focus ST-3. When I start the car the sat nav (denso - similar to http://www.fordwiki.co.uk/images/6/65/Satelliteinstall1.jpg) unit starts flickering for a while and then it stops and I'm able to use the screen and controls. When I press the phone button though it says "muted" on the screen when it should go into "bluetooh" mode. I know the bluetooth module is faulty as it has been working previously, up until the alternator went which apparently damaged it. I have tried accessing the diagnostics and resetting some of the logs and tried restoring factory default settings which have not worked (from http://www.fordwiki.co.uk/index.php?title=Touchscreen_Sat_Nav_-_Information_and_Diagnostics_-_PART_1).

I have 2 things in mind, one to disconnect the bluetooth module (does this mean I will lose audio?) and secondly to replace the module itself (probably later on).

I have seen some posts around the internet about pulling out certain fuses and retro fitting modules but I am not really an expert and would appreciate if someone could provide step by step instructions with images or a guide for this specific car and unit.

If you have any more questions or need more info please let me know!

Thank you!

You should never leave a defective Bluetooth/Voicecontrol module connected. A defective Bluetooth/Voicecontrol module can prevent the other CANbus modules from entering sleep mode which can drain the battery in a really short time. Next to this a defective Bluetooth/Voicecontrol module can alos damage other CANbus modules (like the radio for example).

Personally I would disconnect the defective Bluetooth/Voicecontrol module as soon as possible. If you are lucky the radio will work again after disconnecting the module. If not there is a chance the radio is also defective.

Note that the Focus MK2 has the 1st generation Bluetooth/Voicecontrol system. The modules of this system are pretty rare and expensive. You can only replace the module with a module of the same system. Later MK2.5 modules (which are a lot more common) are not compatible with this old system.

Thanks for the reply.

Do you know how I can do this?

Thank you

The Bluetooth/Voicecontrol module is mounted behind/above the glove box. The glove box needs to be removed to have access to the Bluetooth/Voicecontrol module. The module has one connector which can be disconnected by pulling the release tab upwards. The module is mounted on the mounting bracket by a single Torx screw.

After the module has been disconnected the radio should be working as usual again. If not there may also be damage to the radio itself.

Thanks for the info.

Can you please provide steps or are there any guides on how to do this?? I don't want to make any mistakes.

Thank you

Also, would it be easier to take out the fuse for this?

There is no sperate fuse for the Bluetooth/Voicecontrol module. The Bluetooth/Voicecontrol module is connected to the same fuse as the radio.

Ok, thanks.

So I gave it a shot, disconnected the battery and pulled out the glovebox. I had seen in some sites that if you don't disconnect the battery you could pull an airbag connector. The glovebox only had one connector going into it for the AUX input. So the setup is not how you described.

There is a DVD unit:-

This is it with it screwed in close:

This is it with it unscrewed:

Now when I try to see what's above it, it looks like the bluetooth module:

The DVD has 2 screws on either side, I couldn't get these out using what I had. So that leaves 2 questions:

Does the DVD need to be removed to take out the bluetooth? If so what tool should I use?

If not then how do I go about it?

Thanks

Hi,

So I have managed to remove the module.

I have found one that matches the part number of mine. If I buy it will I need to do anything to it or will I be able to simply plug it in and it will work?

Thanks

If the module originally came from a Focus MK2 or C-max it will be plug and play. If the module came from a different Ford model the module needs to be reconfigured to make all functions work correct.
