2006 1.8tdci Focus In Limp Mode And Just Seen White Smoke!!

Featured Replies

I'm only 20 with no experience in engines and I'm trying to fix this one myself, the car has powertrain light on and is stuck in limp mode I think, it won't go over 2900rpm, I had a diagnostic test on it the other day and it came up with the codes; P0490, P0299, P0069, P0106, P0670, U0140 and P010F. I also found the electronic turbo actuator in the glove box. the temperature gauge is also always going high them coming back down then going back up. Tonight after I dropped a friend off I got home and seen smoke coming from the engine. Any help would be greatly appreciated

P0490 is indicative of an electrical issue with the EGRV ( Exhaust Gas Recirculation Valve )

P 0299 = Turbo Underboost issue

P0069 indicates a MAP ( Manifold Absolute Pressure ) issue

P0106 = Ditto

P0670 = Glow plug control module issue

P010F = MAF ( Mass Air Flow ) issue

U0140 = Body Control Module communication issue

White smoke is indicative of raw unburnt diesel passing through the combustion process & vaporising on a hot exhaust

Any repairs you can advise? Or parts I'd need? Or what to do with the actuator and temp? Thank.

There's a long list of faults there & with all due respect, as you yourself state, you have no experience, I think a decent garage is the best option for you

Good luck.

Would you have any idea on price? These all seem to be electrical faults I've never encountered electrical faults before and with my lack of knowledge I feel I may get ripped off

The issue is we have fault codes, but not the source / cause of the faults which could be wiring or software or hardware or any combination of those

How much is the car worth to you in cash terms ?

Who did the diagnostic test ?

  • Author

Insurance value the car at £2780 but I swapped it with my Toyota celica which I'd say was worth no more than 1000 so I see it as a money maker when it's running properly again.

Kwik fit did diagnostic test

OK - I'd get some quotes from at least 3 garages for the cost of repair - be sure to tell them ALL the fault codes & the fact that the engine is emitting white smoke

See what they say & let us know.
