Focus 1.8 Mk2 Petrol Limp Mode P0122 Error Code.....mmm

Featured Replies

Focus 1.8 MK2 2007 Zetec, 46,000 miles.

P0122 Error Code.

I've changed the Throttle Body and engine Wiring Loom, both second
hand, the PCM has been to a specialist, twice, and the issue is still
there. The problem improved after the replacement wiring loom,
but it slit happens, mainly when the air temperature is cold, below
10-12degrees, i.e. now winter...

Any help greatly appreciated

Jon

P0122 is indicative of an issue with the throttle pedal sensor / switch which is reporting a voltage that is too low

Many thanks, I'll give it a try and report back, is this quite simple job?

Regards

Jon

I can't answer that Jon as I've never done it - but I can't imagine it's too difficult, although i'd research the TPS location on your car first, it's quite possibly attached to the gas pedal / throttle body

On the Focus MK2/MK2.5 TPS related DTC codes can also be caused by a defective instrument cluster.

All Focus MK2/MK2.5 versions have a drive by wire throttle pedal. The throttle pedal has a position sensor (basically just a potentiometer) which is directly connected to the instrument cluster. The instrument cluster converts the analog sensor signal to a CANbus signal and communicates this signal to the PCM. Bad soldering connections of the instrument cluster can result in a bad connection (or no connection at all). This can generate the DTC code and put the car in limp mode.

I have had similar problems myself after I installed an MK2.5 instrument cluster into my MK2. After a long search I found out the instrument cluster was causing this problem.

Thanks for both the comments, do you know if either part(throttle sensor or instrument cluster) are wedded to the PCM? Thanks, Jon

I would expect them to be
