Hi mate i did this but mine was an upgrade on my old mk1.5 focus 2.0 esp. As i already had rear discs. I upgraded to full st170 brakes conversion all round. Front 300mm before: 258mm & rears 280mm before 253mm. So awesome stopping power.

I can tell you alot about my upgrade but wont waste your time so give you hints.

Only the 2.0 cc & some 1.8 cc engined models had rear discs. The rear discs are 280mm .

So you would need calipers ,carriers, splash shields/guards, hub/knuckles with abs sensors. Also need both handbrake cable , discs & pads. Best to go to breakers & look for a 2.0 zetec/ ghia. St170 upgrade is way better as its stopping power & look better behind alloys.

Don't forget to get a master cylinder. You'll also need a master cylinder from whichever route you go 2.0L Zetec/Ghia/ST170.

You'll have 'brake effort' issues if you upgrade your drums to discs without upgrading your master cylinder

I done the rear disc conversion on my 2001 1.6

Contrary to popular belief the rear discs do not improve stopping power - actually quite the opposite. I had mine checked on a brake roller and the power of the discs was less than that of the drums.

What you do gain is a greater efficiency to deal with dissipating heat - this is why i replaced mine. I had damaged the drum brakes through hard and repeated braking. Never had the issue with the discs.

As for master cylinder, it's the same pne for drums or discs - not the st170 setup though.
