Airbag And Seat Removal

Featured Replies

Evening all,

Have two questions I wondered if anybody would be kind enough to answer :)

I replaced my Titanium cloths seats this morning with half leathers from another estate - really pleased with them but a few issues.

First question is I'm trying to replace the rear seats, I have replaced the bench no problem (where you actually sit) but I cannot for the life of me remove the rear portion of the seat due to two awkwardly placed bolts. I've attached two pictures to explain.

The two bolts that are required to be removed, can't be accessed due to limited space, regardless of whether the seat is flipped forward or back I simply cannot get a ratchet in. Is there a trick to removing it in the estate? Have checked Haynes which has no mention of removing rear seats and any Google searches just turn up hatchback procedures.

Second question is, I used the front seat belts that were original to the car for the front seats and have now noticed the air bag light comes on with the ignition at position II and goes off when the car is started. Any airbag warning light is a concern but if it extinguishes when the engine is running is it a concern?

Thanks in advance :)

Hi I have done exactly the same and came across the same problem. To remove the seats there is a catch at both ends of the bench seats if you look down at the catch you will notice there is a slot with a catch in it.

You will need to prise the catch towards the rear of the car so allowing the slot to become open so the seats will move up out of the slot so releasing the seats. Any trouble and I will take a picture tomorrow as for the air bag light it will come on when first starting the car to show that the light still works and is checking the system. When I did my seats I forgot to plug in the loom for the seatbelt and the light stayed on when the engine was running

Many thanks Darren for your very prompt response. Seems the airbag light is just illuminating to check the system as you said.

I've just rechecked the Haynes manual and it looks like the same seat mechanism is employed on the hatch and estate. I've had a quick look at the release but still can't fathom is out. At least now I know there's a catch so thanks for that. Will report back with any luck I have.

Hi Piran

The catches are between the seat bact and the trim panel.

If you put a flat blade screw driver in to the slot then try to prise the catch open once it starts to move all will become apparent.

Do this to both sides and the seat should pull out.

I can see where the screwdriver goes in now, just snapped off a bit of plastic but I can't see any catch and nothing seems to be releasing. All a bit strange lol

EDIT; just found this vid!

Hi

I think the plastic is part of the clip on the seats you probably need to open the catch some more.

The tension on the catch/claw is quite strong but should open up enough to allow the seat to come up.

Thanks for your help Darren, all seats now fitted. Not easy in the dark but well chuffed with the results!

Spent hours trying to figure out how the bolt removed and all it was, was a simple clip! Doh!

No worries

Had the same problem when I swapped my grey seats for a set of red seats

I saw the bracket and thought the same but got there in the end

Glad you are happy with the new seats
