Intermittent Starting Problem

Featured Replies

Hi, Have a 2006 Ford focus Sport .......automatic , petrol , estate . Have started having intermittent problems when starting . Often starts fine , but sometimes it fires then cuts out straight away . . I can usually get it going after a couple of turns , and sometimes by putting my foot to the floor on the accelerator . I did think of trying Damp Start .......but it doesn't always coincide with it being damp conditions ! Should I try that anyway ........or are there any other things to look at first ?

Cheers !

hi i have had the the problem with my 2005 focus 1.6 petrol did you find out or solve the problem ....cheers

Have it checked it could be a crank sensor ir throttle position sensor

Mine has the same problem. Alternator and battery ruled out as possible culprits.

Never found the actual cause.

When were the spark plugs last changed ?

Possible coil pack / H.T. leads issues ?

Could also be a software issue with the auto gearbox father in law had similar with his vauxhall

Plugs leads etc all changed in last 12 months as well as cam and crank sensors...

Changed during the last service, only about a year ago.

Mine is also an auto - can you elaborate a bit more please mate?

EDIT: Happened again today after a long drive - also made a very weird (difficult to describe) sound when starting.
