Had To Fit A New Engine At 67K!!!!!!!!!

Featured Replies

Afternoon

Ive got a 2009 TDCI with 67k on the clock, its serviced regularly and well looked after in general.

Had a con rod snap into pieces blowing a hole in the bottom end of the engine.

just had to fork out to replace the entire engine.

Is this normal for this to happen on a well maintained well serviced car ?

that hasn't been driven like a boy racer and spent most of its time on a motorway taking me to and from work

to say im not happy about it would be an understatement

oh and I called ford customer services about this and basically got told to do 1

Gaz

sounds about rite for cust service. it could be any number of things, my guess would be a weak rod (Chinese steel) :censored: I can sympathise with you m8 when I bought mine about 2 weeks after the warranty ended not 1  not 2 :( but all 4 injectors needed replacing  oh and then the clutch and the dmf :censored: :censored: !!!! but now its all done I do like my car :)

I'd agree with a possible manufacturer fault. I've never known a con rod to break naturally at that sort of mileage. And I worked on plant engines all day long for the last 20 years Normally a reason behind it but proving it is different matter

Chinese steel! Don't say that, they're using Chinese steel for the new Forth Crossing ......... !

:o Find another way m8

Christ thats low mileage. Fraud's customer service is naff at the best of time. Not really sure what to suggest, must of just been unlucky. Maybe visit your nearest main dealer and speak the the manager there and see if they will do anything to reimburse you

The only way you can legally fight it, will be to have an independent expert's report that states it was caused by a manufacturing fault that was present at the point of sale or manufacture.

The onus is on the customer after the first 6 months to prove a fault and can you can make a claim for up to 6 years after purchase.

Otherwise anything you get will just be a gesture of goodwill.

If you had the broken con rod tested they could determine whether it was a manufacturing fault or not but it's not a cheap process and you'd have to pay up front and may not get the money back if it was deemed to be natural failure or unable to prove otherwise.

I have, and lower mileage than that on dv6.

Well that's not natural it's a dv6 nothings natural about them pmsl

The onus will be put on the driver/customer for overspeeding/lack of lubrication

just totally wounded by it all,

ive had the repair carried out and the car seems fine for just going to be driving it like a learner for the first 1000 miles.

my next car will deffo NOT be a ford as I have totally lost confidence in the product with something like this happening.

it seems like the motor industry is now about quantity not quality. especially in these mass produced companies that rely on cheap labour and cheap materials

not good at all

What engine was it?

If it is the Dv6 then enough said.

It is a Peugeot engine that Ford fortunately don't use anymore.

Yeah I believe it was that one

, ruined

The turbo was whistling and the clutch bearing howling on my mum's old 206 with Dv6 engine when she got rid of it and that only had 30k on the clock.

Dont let this notorious PSA POC put you off Fords. Just avoid the 1.6tdci in future. :)

What has the failed DV6TED4 engine been replaced with ?

is the new 1.5 tdci not still a PSA engine? and the 2.0 tdci in the ST? i thought they were still evolutions of the old 1.6 and 2.0 tdci PSA engines..

The 1.5 is an evolution of the 1.6, but it is now a Ford developed engine afaik. All the reviews talk about how much better it drives compared to the old 1.6 too.

Peugeot and Ford seem to have each forked their own engine development. Peugeot continuing with 1.6 displacement and Ford with 1.5.

The 2.0 is a DW10 PSA engine, but doesn't seem to suffer the same number of reliability issues as the DV6.

luckily I work at a dealership so got the engine and labour at trade price. still sucks and skinted me though!!!

just feel put off by it all

The 1.5 is an evolution of the 1.6 & was introduced due to the much lower tax bands in China for engines under 1.6 according to Ford, so Ford must see the Chinese market as financially lucrative, which it will be.

Of all the things I worry about going wrong on the DV6, I wasn't expecting snapping conrods to be one!

Peugeot have had issues with the old XUD9 conrods in the past...but not in the DW10 that replaced it. I wonder who bought the rods in the DV6, whether that's Peugeot or Fords fault this time lol. If mine throws a rod it'll be replaced with the engine I should've originally gone for, won't ever buy another DV6 engine car for a daily myself.

I know how you feel m8 but once you finish driving like miss daisy :) you can enjoy it
