Battery Weight

Featured Replies

Anyone know how much a standard battery weighs for the focus? Been looking at the light weight batteries. Wonder if its worth saving weight there or not.

Considering the car weighs in excess of 1 ton - trying to save a lb or two or three seems a little pointless ?

If you consider the long term ie 10 years the savings could be significant when combined with other weight reduction areas

Savings in mpg ?

Save weight by only quarter filling the tank you'll find a full tank of fuel weighs far more than a battery!

Already do that ;). Other suggestions are appreciated and yes the spare wheel is gone(13kg)

probably around 10kg, thats what it felt like when i removed it to replace the intercooler hose on the turbo last weekend

It depends on the manufacturer as to the weight of a battery but a 063 type as fitted to the petrol focus is around 12kg give or take slightly.

Good way to also drag any muck or sediment out the tank and into the rest of the fuel system. As you will be constantly running on low fuel a lot of the time.

If there's sediment in the tank then it's gonna be sucked up no matter how much fuel you have in the tank. It's constantly moving and sloshing around. Put sand in a glass and slosh it about a bit the particles become suspended in the liquid for a while

let some air out the tyres,:whistling:

Nothing more than an old wives tail.

Depends how in-depth your going, is it just a road car or are you going for a fast road car/track day car. Because there is loads of area's to save weight.

I suppose it'll cut the 0-62mph time by .000001 of a second!

Yes and your car will go faster if you lose weight hehehe

A light weight battery will make no difference in reality over a normal battery if the intention is to make it lighter and therefore quicker on a petrol focus you'll need to rip it to a bare shell no sound reads in no extra seats lightweight engine and gearbox mounts lighter alloy wheels remove the door panels roof lining
