Wishbone Bushes, Few Other Bits.

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

As usual, went to the garage to do a simple wheel alignment, and came out with a quote for £500...

Now, first point was brakes, the discs are going and pads could also be changed, which i've bought by now already. (bosch units from ECP)

The main point of this thread, I've been advised that the front and rear bushes are in an almost critical state, I can't hear any knocks yet, but it does feel a bit loose.

Could you guys suggest me what brand of bushes should I get, and where to get them from?

Got another quirk on the car as well, seems like i'm always loosing coolant, but only up to a certain stage.
I could fill the coolant container up to the max level, but after driving less than 10 miles, half of it would be gone, and then within the next 10miles it would go down to 1/4 of the containter, which is way below the min. mark. but the funny thing is, it would then stay there, at that level and not go any lower and the car doesn't overheat as well, doesn't matter how hard I drive. Any ideas?

BTW the car in question is 2006 1.6tdci 90hp focus.

Change the coolant cap if its not sealing it will let coolant out its about a tenner for one like the bushes I get from ford some cheaper brands wear out too quickly front wise I just replace the whole wishbone which will have a bush fitted and a new balljoint on the rears it depends what bushes need done you can get complete rear kits on eBay that are pretty good and a heck of a lot cheaper than ford that will replace the whole rear end like these highly recommend them http://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/FORD-FOCUS-MK2-REAR-AXLE-WISHBONE-SUSPENSION-ARM-KIT-COMPETE-WITH-BUSHES-BOLTS-/321728089472?nav=SEARCH

Alright,

Do you really think it's the cap at fault? If it is, then that is quite silly, but then a gain, quite a known fault...

Anyhow, in regards to the bushes, I don't really want to spend too much buying the whole rear assembly, I'd just like the bushes, but then again, I cannot remember from top of my head which bueshes they were, but that's fine, I will check the quote from the garage later on. In regards to the front, do you really think that changing the whole wishbone is the best option? If it is, then alright, but it is quite a bit more costly.

Anyhow, thanks for your help.

One more thing, vibrating clutch pedal, is that something that I should be worried about?

Regards,

I don't think you will be able to buy standard replacement bushes. You will have to buy the whole suspension arm .Just to add ,but if you can find some bushes by the time you have pressed out the old bushes and pressed in the new it won't be cost effective, just as well buy a suspension arm without the hassle buddy.

Personally I only use Ford parts.I think you need to be a bit careful and find out the size of your ball joint,I think there are different sizes on the mk2.I ve a mk1 so I'm not sure bud.

If you contact you local Ford parts department they will be able to tell you which wishbone fits your car with the finis number.

As above there's different wishbone sizes so IDE call or ask the parts dept first reason I linked to the rear ones is that's the cheapest way to have them replaced at once ....as for the cap its the cheapest solution it could be the water pump as well or the heater matrix or radiator or a coolant hose

If it would be a coolant hose or any other sort of leak like that, the coolant would eventually just dissapear, but instead, it just drops down to certain level and stays there...

And for the rear, I just need the trailing arm bushes changed. (well only one of them, but I'd want to replace both anyway)

But if the ball joint is 18mm, would those arms be alright?

Sorry, bit of a newbie, this is my first car after all.

That's the right shape but definitely check on ball joint size. With the trailing arms I would only replace the worn out one unless the other side is on it's way out also bud.

go with ECP or genuine ford parts, or you will be replacing those again next year

The Garage quoted me £60 each, I guess it sounds reasonable then, just don't like not knowing what parts have been put in place of the old ones that's it.

That's the main reason I bought my own discs and pads. But I guess I can trust them with bushes and stuff.

In my honest opinion Fit Genuine ford parts, the car is what, 9 years old and on its original bushes/wishbones,

The non genuine parts might last a year or two at best
