Squeak When Pulling Away??

Featured Replies

Feel like im living on this site researching since owning the car, here is another issue with my car....

When pulling away there is sometimes a squeal which sounds like the drive belt slipping or wheels spinning slightly. Now I am not wheel spinning and I have just changed the drive belt hoping it would fix the issue but sadly not.

Just trying to think what else could possibly make this noise? All ideas and suggestions welcome :(

Hi Chris

I have experianced this in the past.

How many miles has the car done and is it on its original clutch as chances are it could be the clutch is at its rivets (clutch lining rivets) ie worn down to what holds the clutch material on

Its done 56k I have looked through history and cannot see anything about clutch being done in the past.

I suppose it's done the mileage to make the clutch a real possibility?!?!

Hi Chris

If you pull away hard from 1st does it squeek at every gearchange

does it sound like its coming from the left or right side of the engine bay

Why not take a passenger with good hearing and let them judge where the noise is coming from

Clutch life is dependent on how the car has been treated before you got the car.

also 56 thousand miles is extremely low for a 12 year old car

Jamie

Just an afterthought but it could be a dry release bearing

I can't tell which side it's coming from TBH all I know is it seems to be from the engine bay.

I thought the clutch pedal was high when I got the car but after reading a few posts here focus clutch pedals seem to be higher than allot of cars anyway.

The noise happens when pulling away fast, say at a junction but only in 1st and 2nd as far as I can tell.

The low mileage is what attracted me to the car, it's only done 3k miles since 2007, I have changed everything you would normally change when servicing a car already including a new pollen filter and weather seal due to leak into passenger footwell.

If it is a dry release bearing I'm guessing it's probably worth doing the clutch anyway while it's all open?

From experience, I would also say its the clutch release bearing. To be honest, I'd leave it if the clutch is otherwise ok. I had the problem on a Mk1 Focus and lived with it for a few years before selling it.
