Need To Reset Ecu /egr With Forscan Or Similar?

Featured Replies

My engine warning light (MIL) has come on permanently and using Forscan diagnostics am told the EGR valve is stuck open

The car is a 2009 Focus 1.6 Tdci with 55k miles.

I intend to remove the EGR valve, clean it with oven cleaner, and put it back with a blanking plate.

I have no experience with this type of electronically controlled EGR and wondered if there would be a need to recalibrate it after cleaning or something else .???

Any advice welcome..

For scan will reset the learned values, usually disconnecting the battery does the job too, remember the radio code mind, you would do well to get it cleaned and working again (if possible) then blank it off, damned thing is an engine killer esp in the 1.6 tdci, this engine need plenty of TLC an fixing the egr will be the priority, along with 6k oil changes

Clean the EGR valve as you suggest, then reset the EGR valve adaptions with forscan, clear any error codes present, then fit your blanking plate.

Once the blanking plate is fitted it will throw a code about flow restriction at the EGR but that should not bring up the EML just log a code for flow restriction.

Thanks Darren and Simon,

I'll give it a go once the weather improves.

And thanks for the offer to help.

I'll post an update as soon as I can.

Mike
