2.0 Tdci Turbo Whistle

Featured Replies

Hi guys

I hope someone can helpicon1.png.

I have a 2.0 Tdci 136bhp.

My car makes a woooohh sound when I change gear. Most noticeable when changing from 1st to 2nd gear and 2nd to 3rd gear. It only does it as the revs drop. No noise when accelerating.

When I'm idling and I Rev the car the noise is present but only as the revs drop.

i found two videos on YouTube. Mine makes the exact same sound.

What could this be?

Ps. Power seems ok. No smoke or any other problems.

Thanks in advance

Thanks for the reply.

In the first video around 2-3 seconds when he revs the car and the revs start to drop you hear a ooooohhh sound. Is that normal?

My car never did this before but it started about 3000 miles ago. Seems to have got a bit louder over time.

I will try and get a video of my car doing this.

From research a turbo only spools under load correct?

I take it because the car is idling. That noise is not coming from the turbo or have I got that completely wrong?

I'l have to have a listen on some better speakers later, was only on my phone, so not the best audio quality, lol.

Check the hose that connects the intercooler to the EGRV for splits / leaks

A bit of an update.

I checked all of the hoses, intercooler pipes etc and the vacuum lines. I used the soapy water spray test to see any bubbling. I also physically checked everything and did not see or notice any splits or bubbling so all the pipes seem fine.

One thing I noticed was when I disconnected the electrical connector on the actuator on the turbo and when I revved the car the woooh/whistle sound went away. It was a lot quieter to the point where you could just about hear it. When I reconnected it the woooh/whistle came back again as before.

What does this mean?

i could only hear your turbo spooling up - the same whooshing sound is heard on my car. i wouldnt worry about it at all.

this is my car making the same sound
