Crankshaft blanking plug/bolt replacement - help!

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Long story short my Focus (2004 Mk1, 1.6 petrol) recently developed a significant oil leak which I thought was just the sump plug washer failing, but on closer inspection it appears that the blanking plug for the crankshaft timing pin has decided to exit the block. Despite my best efforts I cannot find any diagrams or other information with a part number or any measurements for this blanking plug, with the only visually similar part being a crank blanking plug for some Mazda models (part no. 9XG00-1157L), which allegedly also fits some Ford engines.

If anyone has a part number, measurements for a bodge fix with a bolt, or knows whether this Mazda part would suffice that would be fantastic, as I feel like I'm at a dead end!

It is just a M10 x 1.5 plug.

Universal sump plugs with this type of thread are widely available. In emergency situations you can even use a standard M10 x 1.5 boltand a copper washer to plug the hole.

Good to know! I've got some copper washers floating around, I'll see if I can get my hands on a plug and report back. Thank you!
