I'm searching for some real-world mpg figures to help me decide my next car:

MK 5 FORD MONDEO ESTATE 2.0 ECOBOOST 240 TITANIUM AUTO

I'd also like to know if anyone tows (a caravan) with one and is prepared to say how the're getting on with this combo.

Have a look there, the MPG figures seem okay I couldn't run it though, but I bet it's a lovely fun car :D

The figure of 38MPG combined may be more than a little optimistic.

I have the 240PS Mk4.5 hatchback which has a official combined MPG of 36; in reality this is closer to 30MPG but if it's short town journeys it's a lot less.

If you plan on towing a caravan then the diesel is a much better option, certainly from a MPG perspective. The 240PS engine is great to drive but be prepared to spend more time and cash filling up at the pump!

I've not been used to the higher mpgs' that diesels provide, so the figures mentioned aren't too prohibitive. Overall it's my ideal car and I'm just trying to justify it's purchase! Having another caravaners opinion would probably allay my worries.

Can you confirm that the auto box is a traditional torque converter type? Thats a big plus for towing a caravan, however I'm a bit concerned at the torque being produced a bit high up. Anyone care to venture an opinion about this?

I know where you're coming from r.e. trying to convince yourself to get the 240PS; I went to look at my car which was wrongly advertised by the garage as the diesel, but after the test drive there was no way of not buying it. I moved on from a Mk3 ST TDCI and I was used to combined figure of 47MPG (doing the same type of journeys as I do now in the new car) & I get 29-30MPG in the Mk4.5 240PS.

I'm not too sure what box is in the Mk5, the Mk4.5 has the Powershift dual wet clutch box which needs the fluid changed every 3 years or 37.5k miles at a cost of approx £250.

You could check out the forums on talkford.com - there's lots of info, especially about the Powershift box for the Mk4.5. There's also a Mk5 forum which may have something.

My research so far shows a standard TC gearbox on just that specific car in the range. The Durashift 6-tronic transmission - AW F21.

All others are Powershifts. I'm wondering if they're worried about the higher power output through that box, causing too much wear over time..

i have a 2015 2.0 ecoboost titanium x, had it ten days- was a demostrator and ive now done about 1k miles in it taking it to 7,500m.

i've had an average since collection of 33 mpg in it. urban is more like mid to high twenties.

it's my third mondeo, had a r plate 1.8lx mk2 new in the nineties, then after a focus 2.0 an 04 mondeo ST220 3.0. i never got the st above 32 mpg even onthe motorway so i'm pretty pleased with the ecoboost.

it has the 19" wheels, glass roof and all options in the book so no doubt heavy.

the radar cruise control is the best thing since sliced bread, the dynamic led lights im not sure on my view yet as they seem dipped too low to me. it is a really comfortable drive with a bit of jeckle under the hood. the 240 might be on paper moe than the st220's 226bhp but it doesnt feel faster but all around im happy.

the sync2 jury is out, seems a lot of tapping on thescreen needed.

I have a 65-plate 2.0 Petrol Auto. Averages between 25 and 30 urban, slightly higher on a journey. Goes like a train on a motorway  :)

I just bought a 15 plate 2.0 eco boost titanium and not really getting good fuel mpg at all. Round town only getting 20 mpg. Not sure on a motorway. Can anyone help with that.

20 MPG is a bit low even for town, but I wouldn't necessarily conclude something is wrong with your car wrong... I guess it depends how often you are stopping... The 2L ecoboost in the Mondeo is pretty thirsty.

Usual culprits... Spark plugs, oil and oil filter condition, air filter, tyre pressures etc. all in good condition?

On the motorway you should be getting around 34-40 MPG at a constant 70 MPH (assuming its flat).
