Key Issue

Featured Replies

Hi guys, I just bought an 01 Focus purely because I think they were the best. It on came with one key with no buttons on it, but I have a Mondeo key here with all the buttons on from a previous car I think it was an 08 Mondeo, is it possible to have it cut the same as the smaller key and coded. Would that work?

The mk1 Focus had the ability to add extra keys as long as you have 2 working keys with matched transponder chips.

As you only have one key you can't self programme, a call to some auto-locksmiths for quotes would be the best course of action.

The Tibbe key blades are easy to source and get cut and fobs can be self-coded to the central locking system even with just one key, the important bit here that the locksmith will need to do is coding the ID4 transponder chip.

Can these be coded with elm327 and forscan like the mk2 and mk2.5 can be?

The mk1 Focus has the earlier OBD protocols and is far more basic than the current OBDII.

I don't believe that there is backwards compatability.
