Looking To Buy A Escort But Am Unsure If It Is "headgasket" Failure Or Worse

Featured Replies

Hello all, currently looking at an Escort RS turbo rep on ebay with a 2.0 Zetec engine which has had a decompression plate thrown on and turbo'd it's listed as spares or repair as apparent head gasket failure the symptoms he has said sound strange to me, this would be my first ford i'm looking to buy so am unsure on the engine in general so any pointers would be great! scared it's a ring or worse! and obviously don't want to buy if i have to end up rebuilding the whole engine

It says all the coolants gone but none in the oil and the oil seems fine, so i'm stuck

Any pointers and info would be great!

This is what it says about it in the info:

"ok then gents just to sum up what I think has gone wrong with the car. I believe it's one of the head gaskets either side of the decompression plate. The engine had no rattles, bangs, knocks, simply temp shot up and came to a stop. The coolant is gone but the oil is fine. No water in the oil so I'm assuming it burnt it. The engine turns over fine but a little faster than normal indicating no compression. So again head gasket. Worse case scenario it could be piston rings or hole in a piston but doubtful. Again no blue smoke. Rattles bangs."

Thanks all in advance

Jake
