Focus Mk2.5 1.6 Tdci Engine Cut Out With Oil And Battery Lights

Hi Guys,

Twice now my engine has cut out for seemingly no reason and upon cutting out the oil and battery lights come on.

Both times it's happened in cold weather, once with the engine at normal temperature and once with it cold.

Anyone got any idea what this could be?

    The oil light will come on when the car stalls because there is not enough oil pressure and is totally normal. Same with the battery light it just shows the battery is not charging because the engine has stopped.

    Replace the fuel filter as suggested if it has not been changed for some time. But a diagnostic session would help by showing if any DTC codes are logged as it will give something to investigate. As always clearing any codes present and run it til it happens again and see what codes are logged again. Then when you have that info you can look at what can be causing that code etc.

    Cheers for the comments, I was thinking fuel filter because of the cold weather both times and the fact its diesel, but the filter should have been changed in its last service (with previous owner) I'll change it on the next service which is due soon if I keep getting the problem.

    No DTC codes before or after it cuts out which isn't very helpful! But the warning lights make sense now you say it!
