Best Budget Double Din - With Sat Nav?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I am looking to replace my Ford 6000 unit in my Fiesta mk6 for a double DIN touch screen, I have only had single DIN headunits in my car so far so a double DIN plus a touch screen is new to me.

I have also noticed that some include sat nav but I am guessing that those maps are out of date so kinda useless unless you pay to update them? I have a lifetime TomTom maps on my standalone sat nav but it would be cool to be able to just have the 1 unit that does sat nav as well.

Anyway, are there any fairly good double DIN units that people recommend? I have seen a LOT on Ebay but I don't know how good they are, I won't be needing to use it for hands free calling, just radio/music. I might also look to upgrade to an additional sub at some point - will be uprating the door speakers soon but might fit a slightly better sound system at some point.

Thanks in advance!

You can get cheap, such as windows CE variants of head unit, which are OK, but nothing special. Likewise, you can buy top of the range for about £400+ which will be much better.

I have undergone mostly a transformation on my car, I have replaced the headunit with a single din hidden behind a nexus 7 tablet. The tablet has full infotainment, though DAB signal isnt great (but then again, since replacing the antenna base, the FM has been the same!), its got text and call functions, which link to my phone, I have internet access, satnav, music, and as its an android, I can do whatever I want with it (next will be linking it to the steering wheel controls, and also adding a TV tuner).

All in all, not bad, for a tablet I had laid around.

Thanks for that, I have a nexus 7, might look into that idea about using a tablet as it would mean I could download Google maps and use the onboard GPS.

Connects2 are a UK based comany whom manufacture many specific aftermarket conversion kits,

They most recently stock tablet cradles and looms for the car

Its been a challenge, but I dont think my install looks too bad. Got a little one due at the moment, the plan is after little one has been I can then get back to finishing the aftermarket setup.

I personally prefer Co-Pilot. A fantastic piece of kit for GPS, simple, effective, completely offline, includes traffic etc. Can be had for £25, or could be.... ahem.... "acquired" for free...

Never the less, I love my nexus setup, its taken me a while to get where I am and I need to put more detail together in my thread, but in all honesty, I have an excellent unit there, and so far, its cost me about £60-£80 maximum, spread over quite a few months. But thats mainly because I have bought parts, then bought something else, then found I need to buy something better :p

I will check out that software, it seems that there are a fair few units that have a pretty good screen and have GPS but its just the actual maps etc which are the issue, I might just carry on using my standalone sat nav for longer journeys and maybe use the onboard one if I am stuck somewhere without it.
