I have a 55 plate zetec climate,if I remember right I was Ave about 42mpg on the duel carriageway (say that figure anyway) when I reset it back to 0.Is the Ave mpg fairly accurate on this model and age?? Although at 30 mile left in the tank the mechanic ran out of petrol so that bit isn't accurate lol. Many thanks

The only true way to accurately calculate m.p.g. is the brim to brim method - fill the tank up & note the mileage & then when the tank is at , for instance, a quarter full , fill the tank again & note the amount of fuel required & mileage again.

Then calculate the mileage covered between the first fill up & second fill up & divide by litres of fuel used, so for instance 300 miles driven divided by 40 litres used would be very close to 34 m.p.g. average
