How Good Are Oem Speakers?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I will be upgrading my sound system soonish, I plan initially to just swap out the headunit (currently a 6000CD). I was just wondering how good the OEM speakers were in the car (mk6 Fiesta), I know that some of the OEM speakers are actually ok but its the headunit that let the system down. I know my old 1991 FC3S RX7 had carbon fibre speakers as standard, guessing these OEM speakers are cardboard?

Yeah the Ford speakers aren't up to much, mk6 ones are the same as mk1 focus, I find the top end lacks clarity, the mid range and bass are all muddled up and they can't handle any sort of power.

If you're looking to upgrade then I know a few people on here have used Focal's and are very pleased with them. I will be fitting some JL's in the new year which if their subwoofers are anything to go by should be very good.

Check out Ginger Flame's build thread for inspiration on what to do with your mk6 with regard to audio.

Thanks for that, I will be checking around different build threads, will start to collect the various parts, will get a touchscreen head unit, speaker cable adaptors so its plug and play and some 5x7 speakers. I will then gradually work on the different doorcards, they don't seem too hard to upgrade so will do the changes over a few weekends.

Just a thought but instead of getting 5x7 I went for 6" round ones with adapter plates. I found this gave me a better choice when buying.

Not sure whether there are any advantages sound wise between the 2 though

My build thread documents my full ICE build and install, including component comparison & selection.

Would you put a link to your thread please GF. I've a friend with a fiesta wanting to upgrade and a read of yours will be good before I do his for him. Cheers.

I am tempted to check out the round speaker adaptors, guessing fitting them doesn't foul anything else?

With the Focals I had to make the oval hole a little larger and I didn't use the adapter in the end.

But they're round speakers and I got them to fit perfectly without the adapters

Hmm, also useful to know! I will look into speakers in the new year (hopefully in the jan sales!) I do have a slight trim rattle in the rear passenger door so will investigate that along with upgrading the speakers :)

Here's the factory speakers from a 2010 Ford Focus,

Ford are king of paper mache,

Some say the Ghia badge found on doors is really a Blue Peter badge painted over👌

Fantastic high end parts they seem to have fitted there, are there 2 different sizes front and rear? One looks like the 5x7 but the other pair look round - are they both 5x7 fitments?

the picture I posted is 6.5" front and rear,

Not sure what the fiesta is mate,

GingerFlame can advise,

you will need aftermarket conversion rings available from eBay they replace the existing speaker shape while housing an aftermarket fitment such as 6.5"

The adapter rings simply do not fit the doors when you go for. Larger size such as the Focals. Not on the 5 door anyway

I believe the originals are 5x7
