itsrelfy Posted December 12, 2015 Share Posted December 12, 2015 Hi all I'm interested in getting one of these elm327 devices but there seems to be loads available and I'm not sure what one to get. Any recommendations? Also am I right in thinking that I need some sort of phone app or do these things work via a laptop. Preferably I'd like an app on my iPhone if that's possible. m1tch Posted December 12, 2015 Share Posted December 12, 2015 I got a really basic mini bluetooth one, cheapest I could find, torque app is the one you want to download, the pro version has lots of other features but the free version is also great to check codes and any realtime data. It'll need a laptop or tablet to plug into but you'll get much more detailed diagnostics from the likes of Forscan than you ever will with Torque (unless there are modified bluetooth ones of course!) Dee_82 Posted December 12, 2015 Share Posted December 12, 2015 http://www.spanglefish.com/TunnelratElectronics/ its a wired device for use with a computer BUT you will kick yourself if you don't get a modified device, as some parts of the car such as GEM cant be looked at with a non-modified one or BT. you need to be careful with the bluetooth ones, I picked up one to try and it buggered up my power steering, had to remove it, and kill the battery for a few min for the car to start properly! I belive for iPhone you need a specific one due to BT permissions on the phone although might of changed recently. http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B009NPAORC?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00 with this i could view all the sensors in torque need to find the OBD port on my MK3.5 now to have a look and see.
