RobTdci
This happened to me some time ago, replaced the fob battery and no joy. I reset the GEM using ELM config tool and that solved the problem. Perhaps disconnecting and then reconnecting the vehicle battery would reset the GEM if you don't have ELM config or a lead? iantt
have you tried this NOTE: The ignition must be turned to position II exactly four times during remote transmitter programming. Turn the ignition switch from position I to position II four times exactly within six seconds. Turn the ignition switch to position 0. An audible chime will be heard (only in vehicles built before 2008 model year) to indicate that it is now possible to programme the keys for ten seconds. Press and hold one of the buttons on the remote transmitter until a chime sounds. This indicates a new transmitter code has been successfully received. To program additional transmitters, repeat step 5. The system will leave the learning mode after the ignition switch is turned to either position II, or if no new transmitter is programmed during the 10 seconds, or if eight remote transmitters have been programmed. iantt
the 2008 is the same except for the chiming noise entering programming. as you have tried that , and i assume you have fitted battery the right way round, then that leaves the remote is broke or the gem module is faulty,( or rf reciever faulty, but not sure if you age has one and rf could be part of gem module) have you just the one remote key? RobTdci
Sorry if I have created some confusion :( will try and explain. The central locking in a MK2.5 is controlled by the GEM (generic electronic module) which in addition to the locking, controls things like wipers, indicators and many other things. The ELM config tool is software runs on a laptop connected to the service port with a lead (ODB lead) which is a socket located in the panel under the headlight switch. You can carry out operations like read fault codes or reset modules. For me, resetting the GEM using the lead ELM config tool solved the problem. It may be that if you don't have an ODB lead or are not comfortable using the ELM tool, that disconnecting and reconnecting the vehicle battery will reset the GEM, but it will mean you have to enter the stereo code again. Smidgey
I will have to disconnect the battery and try that and I don't have the leads or knowledge to much about with codes and stuff and I don't have a standard CD player in I fitted a 7" after market screen that fits direct to where standard CD player goes which does not request a code once reset
