Focus 1.8 Tdci No Power. Grinding Noise

Featured Replies

Hi . Have a 53 plate and the other day noticed had no boost. No power in all gears. Can't really get past 2500 revs. Also the higher the revs get the louder the grinding noise gets. Any help please

blown turbo

Mine went last year.Had a genuine Ford turbo fitted by an independent, cost me a tad under £1200.About 80,000 miles.

Ffs! You guys think that's it or 100% convinced it is? Read somewhere might be split in the elbow pipe?

youll need to get it checked by a mechanic for a definate diagnosis, but that sounds like turbo for me. if it was a split elbow pipe you would be getting whooshing or whistling noises, not grinding

Just quick update. Just drove home and had to go up a steepish hill. Had to drop down to first gear and was just about crawling up it and the revs just flew up . Pulled over turned car off and there were still going. Car didn't turn its self off for another 10/20 seconds. Also notice driving home that there was black smoke as I got to 2000 revs. Had to ditch car and get a lift home. Anyone think it would be ok to go get it and start it up and drive it home? Cheers

you probably could drive it home but you could do more damage if I was you I would get recovery out they may even be able to diagnose the problem

I wouldn't. It sounds like it could be burning it's engine oil. If it's ingesting oil from a blown turbo you might not be able to stop it next time and it could simply run away until it either throws a rod or seizes up through loss of oil.
