Exhaust Heat Shield

Featured Replies

Hi all does anyone know what fixings are used to secure the exhaust heat shield to the cars body. I had occasion to peek under the car as I was experiencing a clattering noise and what I found was the whole heat shield had fallen off and is sitting on the exhaust pipe. Too wet to do at moment all the NW is getting is rain. Want to obtain fixings before I start (when we get a decent dry spell).

Regards to all Jim

It might be just a case of bending the shield back in place and buying larger washers for the bolts, that's what I did.

Hi Richard can you remember size of washers especially inner diameter. Many thanks for your reply much appreciated, don't want to get car on axle stands measure screw diameter so assertaining washer size then remove axle stands go and purchase washers then do it all over again.

Regards and best Wishes Jim.

Sorry I don't know for certain what the size washers I used. You should be able to get under the car without axle stands to have a look depending on the location. If not I'll have a look tomorrow, the car's exhaust is hot at the minute been on a long run.

I either make my own washers using 1mm aluminium and a 38mm holesaw or glue them back on with tigerseal - sometimes a bit of both.

As stef said before refitting use tiger seal around the back of the shield where the fixings go a 2p washer will do the job then the clip if its a large hole cut up a coke can cut to the required size
