Add An Usb Port In The Central Console For Charging

Featured Replies

Hi,

I've been thinking about installing an additional USB port near the climate controls for charging my phone, the usb port in the armrest compartment is too far and so is the 12V port. I'd like something nearer where my phone will be (by the vents).

is that something any of you have done?

where's the best place in your opinion? I thought the empty button slots under the climate controls..

cheers!

also, if anyone has any hints as to how to hide a usb cable under the plastic and make it go into the USB port inside the armrest , that´d be great.

I´m a little OCD and hate seeing cables all over the place, anything I do needs to be hidden as much as possible.

EBay might have a usb switch. I know the mk2 focus did. If you do try to make it itself use a usb extention cable. Run cables under connect it to the rear ish prob use splitter so you can have ish at back. Then run other end to front round the back. Modify a black switch front and place the usb in and secure it using glue etc. Done.

I think I understood half of what you said :P

I've never done anything like this in a car, I'll try to figure it out later !!

I was looking into another alternative, If I could somehow put the usb cable through the bottom of the arm rest container, then I can tuck away under the central console and bring it back up close to the gear stick.
