Nasty Smell After Windscreen Wash

Featured Replies

Hi

After cleaning the windscreen with washer jets there is a god awful rotten egg smell in the cabin. Can I just run the fluid level down and put in some cleaner or could it be more sinister and linked to air on fungus?

Thanks

Craig

Thanks for the reply. Do just run through what's in and top up with new or is there a flush procedure?

i'd be questioning the effectiveness of your cabin pollen filter too.....

Is that the one in the passenger footwell? Looking at other posts I may have to be a contortionist.

Thanks for the hint.

Flush it through, the rate I use screenwash mine wouldn't ever go stagnant!

Try using some neat citrus screenwash – eurocarparts etc usually do it cheap.

Halfords advanced screen wash is good and has a low freezing point, I've got the berry stuff in mine atm...smells like squash though so probably best not to leave the bottle near any kids...

I have only ever had the cheap stuff from poundland go off so use decent stuff now, though with headlight washers I tend to go through it quite quick in the Focus!

They have bitrex in the halfords stuff. It tastes rank!

Sounds like you speak from experience haha!

Bitrex is a very bitter chemical they add to make things un drinkable .Else everyone would be drinking screenwash as some contain IPA ( iso propyl alcohol )

Unfortunately I'm an avid nail biter and have had a few run ins with hand sanitisers containing bitrex.

Not to mention standing outside the drivers door and spraying the washers...

Just bought 99.9% IPA to mix up some panel wipe... May give it a lick..

Flush it through with citrus cleaner (all purpose cleaner).

I use Sonax APPLE screenwash mixed with dionised water. I also have Kleen freaks glass cleaner & sealant mixed in there.

The smell is fantastic & the cleaning power is amazing!
