Brake Windback

Featured Replies

Quick Question...

If i leave the caliper hooked up when changing disc's and pads would i still need to use a windback tool or would it go back with the power of my hands?

Last time i did it i took the caliper off complety and fudged it was unable to wind it back and wnded up taking them to kwik fit to get wound back.

Rear calipers need winding back, fronts just push back.  Which are you doing?

Need to do all round

Not what i was hoping for lol.

i Have a laser windback tool but it is Jeffing useless!

Oh ok, yeah rears never push back due to the handbrake mechanism.

I'm not sure what piston style Fords use though as mine are drums, on the Peugeots I usually work with they have a 'cross' across the piston that fits a screwdriver sideways so I wind them back like that lol.  If they're the ones with little holes then you'll probably need some sort of specific tool unfortunately.

They are the ones with the silly holes but the Tool i have doesnt have anything to match holes.

Ill check to quality of the rears and if there MOTable ill just do the front.

t use a pair long nose pliers in the small holes

I think the problem i had last time was that it was so damn stiff it just wouldnt wind back. Dont want a repeat lol.

Spose i could take one off and attempt windback before changing disc & Pads

just give it a good push some off them are left hand thred

it shouldnt be that stiff, the pliers will do the job, I'm pretty sure it screws in clockwise, just make sure you don't puncture the boots with the piers if they slip

i have used the tool you get that come wit a mini disk cutter before now its same size as the holes

Unscrew the bleed nipple a little.
