heater fan squeak

Featured Replies

In the past week or two my cars heater fan has developed a squeak. At first I think it only happened when cold, now it seems to be all the time. Most audible at the lowest setting. Common fault? Easy/cheap to repair? Seems to do it at whatever temperature the selector is set to.

This is on a mk1 1.8 petrol focus.

It could be a bit of crap touching the fan, possibly a leaf or something. If not that it could be a worn or dry bearing. They can squeal a lot if they dry out. It's usually intermittent. Cure is to get some light oil or WD40 or equivalent in there. If not replace the motor and fan. Good luck! Steve. :-)

Doesn't look that convenient to get to from the video I just watched. Will leave it until I decide whether to fix the brakes or replace the car though. Thanks for the help!
