Whine noise coasting

Featured Replies

My 60 Focus 1.6d is Cat D repaired.60k Light damage on near side arch. Car has excessive road noise compared with my Mondeo. Noise increases with speed and stays the same even in neutral / clutch pressed and engine revs down to tick over whilst driving. Have replaced wheel bearing (not much improvement) and steering rack end (bent loose slight improvement). I best describe this as transmission / diff whine but again going into neutral / pressing clutch makes no difference, above 70 or hard acceleration its drowned out by wind / engine revs... Definitely not turbo as not related to engine speed.

any ideas what could be wrong? I don't mind spending on the car as it's nice..

Update Mondeo needs top end rebuild its going to be an expensive month...

could be the flywheel is on its way out?

Does it get louder when slowing down and also when going around roundabouts?
