Engine running with key not in car

Featured Replies

Hi

I had a weird 'stupid' experience with my 2014 focus earlier.   It appears I got out with the engine in Autostop, didn't lock the car and walked off.

I got a message from reception that someone had turned my car off a few hours later.  Went out to play at dinner time and found out if i started the car, my friend could drive it right round the block with it complaining key not in the car.

Apart from my stupidity is this normal behavior for the car.

Thanks

Normal, the key is only required to start the engine, once started it will keep running without the keyless fob present.

It will be a safety issue, if the battery in the fob went flat or there was interference stopping the car detecting the key, it would be dangerous for the engine to just cut out.
